Stormy weather impacts NSW and VIC

Stormy weather impacts NSW and VIC
Southern New South Wales and eastern Victoria have been soaked as a cold front and low swept over the region. In NSW, Young saw its wettest September day in 14 years with 41mm falling. Wagga Wagga also saw its wettest September day in 11 years with 48mm. Other NSW areas with significant rainfalls were Cabramurra (56mm) and Grenfell (54mm). Victoria also had some decent rainfall with Mount Buller picking up 37mm, making it the wettest September 24 hour rainfall in five years. Hunters Hill received 45mm and Mount Hotham had 24mm fall in the 24 hours to 9am yesterday. Mixed in with the rainfall, wind gusts of 110km/hr were recorded at Mount Hotham and Mount Buller. Over 400 lightning strikes also recorded in the area. These conditions were due to a cold front that developed into a low pressure system over northwestern VIC. This system is continuing to bring rain and strong winds to the southeast of NSW during today. However conditions will become calmer as this system moves offshore by Saturday evening.
