Stormy conditions ahead for NSW
After a beautiful autumn weekend for most of the state, things are looking to turn thundery this week and into the Easter weekend.
An early morning storm passed through Sydney today as if to signify conditions to come.
Around Sydney, a storm cell could potentially pop up in the afternoon around the ranges close to far Western Sydney or the Blue Mountains. A bit further north, Newcastle and Singleton are a better chance to get some storms developing from the afternoon. Into the evening, a line of thunderstorms may occur just offshore along Sydney to Coffs Harbour.
Tuesday will be similar to today. Storms may spark to life from the afternoon along the east of the state from western Sydney to Lismore and even as far inland as Armidale.
Conditions should ease slightly on Wednesday, but showers are looking to persist, with heavier falls of over 15mm for the Yamba area.
On Thursday morning, a band of rain will reach southwestern New South Wales along the leading edge of a cool change. Along the east, this southerly injection of moisture will cause showers from the afternoon around Canberra up to Newcastle.
Unfortunately the Easter weekend is looking no better. To kick it off, Friday should have thunderstorms around Coonamble and possibly the odd rumble around Grafton. Otherwise, widespread showers will dampen the skies across New South Wales, with the heaviest falls looking to be around Port Macquarie.
Saturday is the pick of the stormiest days. A very unstable atmosphere and plenty of moisture is likely to generate storms across New South Wales. Showers and storms will persist into Sunday and look to gradually contract to just the southeast of the state by Monday. Hopefully, a few peaks of sunshine behind clearing showers will grace the state just in time to enjoy the end of the long weekend.
