Storms to strike Perth
A cold front is surging towards Perth, bringing thunderstorms and wind.
The weather has been pretty calm in Perth for a while, with fronts mostly just clipping the western capital on their way to lashing the rest of the nation's south.
However today a stronger front is strengthening as it approaches Perth. This afternoon a few showers will develop ahead of the front and winds will gradually pick up, but the worst weather will come on the frontal boundary.
The front is due to arrive in the middle of the evening, with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Behind the front showers will continue into Saturday morning before clearing during the afternoon. The event will bring about 10mm to most coastal areas, but could be closer to 20mm at Lancelin and Hillarys.
Mother's Day will be beautiful, with mostly sunny skies and a top of 19 degrees in southerly breezes. For mothers with next week off, the sun will shine more strongly each day through Thursday, with rising temperatures and barely any clouds.
