St George Flood update

Douglas Fenton
The Balonne River at St George reached a record level of 13.85 metres at 4am on Tuesday morning and was still rising slowly. Thankfully the rain has eased over the past 24 hours, with only light falls recorded in the Maranoa district. This means that very slow rises are expected at St George, with the river expected to peak at 14 metres on Tuesday. Isolated showers and storms redeveloped in the Maranoa this morning along a low pressure trough. These storms are mainly forecast to affect eastern districts, which may affect local streams but is not expected to impact on flooding. The atmospheric moisture levels have reduced significantly overnight and will reduce further today with a drier south to south westerly change. This means that heavy falls with storms are becoming increasingly unlikely. Areas downstream of St George will see major flood levels during the week. The river level at Dirranbandi is expected to rise further from its current 5.2 metres to around 5.4 metres on Thursday or Friday. Keep checking weatherzone.com.au for the latest warnings.
