Spring storms spark up in SA
After a dry and cold start to winter the first two days of spring are set to be stormy.
Over 3000 lightning strikes have occurred over the West Coast and North West Pastoral this morning as a low and associated trough move across the state. Gusty northerly winds have exceeded 60 km/h in western parts of the state this morning, while showers with thunderstorms have remained below 10mm so far.
For the rest of today storms should continue across the state, with the Lower and Eastern Eyre Peninsula's, North East Pastoral, Kangaroo Island and Yorke Peninsula a good chance of seeing storms this afternoon. Later in the evening the Flinders, Mid North, Mt Lofty and Adelaide should see thunderstorms roll across the region.
Today, showers will be heaviest about the Eyre Peninsula, where 10-15mm should fall. Winds will be strongest over the West Coast behind the front with southwesterly wind gusts over 80 km/h a risk along the coast. Ahead of the trough, northeasterly winds will peak around 65 km/h over central and eastern parts of the state.
Thunderstorms will continue into tomorrow before conditions ease towards the end of the week under a strengthening high pressure system.
