Snow news is the best news

Sam Terry, Tuesday September 7, 2010 - 12:23 EST

Apart from the disastrous flooding that has just occurred across southern NSW and northern VIC, the recent rain has had another effect: ruining snow cover. But good things come to those who wait...

The last 48 hours has seen 10 to 20 centimetres of snow fall across the ski resorts, re-invigorating the rain drenched ski-fields. Skies today and tomorrow will be clear and the wind will be light, making for a pleasant experience.

The bad news is that warm humid winds are increasing, bringing rain to the alps by Thursday morning. As a concession though, the rain will be nowhere near as widespread, persistent and heavy as it was over the weekend just gone.

This coming rain will also give way to snow again. Friday will see generally five to ten centimetres fall before a high on Saturday causes snow showers to clear.

But this is not even the best of the news. Models are picking a strong cold front to sweep its way across the southeast on Monday, spreading strong winds and snow, possibly below 1000 metres, and with potential for 20 cm!

Now this is exciting stuff, but there IS a chance it won't come off. Keep checking weatherzone.com.au for up-to-date forecasts.
