Snow is forecast for parts of the central and southern tablelands tonight as a cold front spreads across the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology says snow showers are likely to fall down to 700 metres this evening and possibly tomorrow.
Temperatures at Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo are expected to remain a few degrees below average.
The Bureau's Nick Bright says a number of places can expect snow.
"Areas where we might possible see snow are places like Oberon, Sunny Corner maybe Orange and even Katoomba is a slight chance of snow so, particularly a wintery burst coming up," he said.
He says it is late in the season for a cold snap but it is not unheard of.
"These cold outbreaks generally occur towards the middle of winter but, we've seen these sort of things occur in September so I would say it's late-ish in the season but it's definitely not unusual."
