Snow at last

Jessica Trevena
A cold front approaching the southeast should bring the highest snowfalls since early April. Accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are likely across a widepsread area between Monday afternoon and Thursday, with Victorian resorts possibly seeing 25 cm. Blizzards will first develop over the Alps on Monday, with snow levels lowering to 1200 metres by Tuesday. On Wednesday, widespread snow showers will persist as westerly gales continue to forcibly uplift air over the Alps as the coldest air moves over the region. This is in contrast to recent fronts where winds veered rapidly southwest with the cold air, sheltering the main resorts. Once snow showers clear late in the week, some very cold overnight temperatures can be expected, possibly dropping close to minus 10 degrees in sheltered regions.
