Showery, cold outbreak to cut through southeast

Brett Dutschke
Strong, cold showery winds, hail and snow will affect southeastern Australia later this week. Snow may even fall on the South Australian Mount Lofty Ranges and on the New South Wales Northern Tablelands. Initially only light showers will affect southern WA as a front crosses the region. But showers and winds will increase over southeastern states due to the interaction of a pool of cold Antarctic air. SA will be the first state to feel the brunt of it on Wednesday night and Thursday. Tasmania, Victoria and NSW will be next from Thursday to Saturday with snow almost certain to fall lower than 1000 metres. Inland, there will be pockets of small hail and many locations will spend a large portion of a day below 10 degrees. More than 20 millimetres of rain is possible in southern parts of SA, Victoria and near the NSW ranges in the most widespread rain event in two-to-three months.
