Severe storms in Melbourne: the story so far
Sam Terry

Thunderstorms have already started to cross the Melbourne area, bringing the severe conditions predicted earlier.
Melbourne Airport recorded a 102 km/h wind gust, the strongest in seven months, and enough to start causing damage to infrastructure. The airport also was deluged with nine millimetres of rain in 10 minutes.
It was a similar story in Essendon. 15 millimetres of rain fell at 2:49 pm, with a gust of 89 km/h, the strongest since last November.
Large hail has also been a feature. Golf-ball sized hail was reported at Taylors Lakes on the western fringe of Melbourne.
The cluster of storms is heading southeast across the Bay, but is still expected to hit eastern suburbs such as Frankston within the next half an hour to an hour.
Another cluster of storms is following close behind the first, indicating that the severe weather isn't over just yet.
