Severe SE Qld storms move out to sea

Wednesday December 3, 2008 - 22:42 EDT

The weather bureau says severe thunderstorms that lashed parts south-east Queensland have moved across the coast and out to sea.

Bureau forecaster Craig Mitchell says the threat has passed but there is still some light storm activity near the Sunshine Coast.

"The heavier line of storms have now moved across the Moreton Bay area and are now moving out to sea," he said.

"The Esk area and Wivenhoe Dam area I wouldn't discount a thunderstorm, relatively weak nothing like the actual line of storms we had through Brisbane and the Gold Coast area just over the last couple of hours."

Meanwhile Energex says about 23,000 customers are still without power across the south-east.

Areas affected include Brisbane's northern suburbs where more than 15,000 customers are affected.

About 7,000 customers are without electricity at Ipswich, the Lockyer Valley, Logan City and areas to the south of Brisbane.
