While the majority of Australia has received less than 20 per cent of their average September rainfall so far this month, a large area of Western Australia is bucking this trend. As of 9am today, parts of the state's Gascoyne and Pilbara districts had registered more than five times their monthly average rainfall for this time of year. A number of other places in the state's south and southwest have also reached their September average, including some areas near Perth. Learmonth's 13.4mm of rain so far this month is well above the long term monthly average of 1.8mm and falls just shy of the site's highest September total on record, which was 14.4mm in 1981. Near the coast, Denham has collected 39mm so far this month, more than five times its September monthly average. Jandakot Airport received 41mm during the 24 hours to 9am today, its heaviest daily rainfall in 21 years during September. The site only needs to receive another 0.8mm of rain to make this their third wetter-than-average month in a row. The running monthly total in Perth had reached 65mm as of 9am today, which is 16mm shy of the city's long-term average for September. A low pressure system will continue to cause showers and storms over the state's west and south on Monday and Tuesday, before another rain-bearing front crosses the region on Thursday.
