Search on for lost pets after Brisbane storm

Wednesday November 19, 2008 - 13:30 EDT

The RSPCA says it is working hard to reunite lost pets with their owners after Sunday's savage storm in Brisbane.

The RSPCA says it has received about 1,000 calls from people who have lost or found animals.

Spokeswoman Andrea Fagg says more than 70 pets have already been traced and returned.

But she says owners should ensure their pets are safe during future storms.

"Probably the major thing they can do is just to supervise the animal and if the animal is distressed to try to ensure they're in a secure environment," she said.

"So even a small area like a small laundry is a great place for the animal to be," she said.
