SE Qld escapes damage as storms head north

Thursday December 4, 2008 - 19:14 EDT

South-east Queensland has escaped another battering from severe thunderstorms.

The weather bureau says the remaining storms are now making their way north toward Hervey Bay and should be out to sea in the next hour or two.

Senior forecaster Tony Auden says the severe weather is now starting to ease.

"While we haven't had widespread reports, we have had one or two around Esk and Nanango of fairly decent winds - anything up to 120 kilometres an hour and hail between two and four centimetres size apart," he said.

"One or two reports of flash flooding, but it looks like we have escaped the worst of it, we are expecting storms to push north they will probably make there way through Hervey Bay in a weakening mode with a little bit of thundery rain and push offshore in the next couple of hours.

"So I think south-east Queensland has seen the worst of the weather for today."
