As Perth closes off its driest May in three years, there is rain coming to give some relief after two weeks of no rain. This will come as a refreshing change for many Perth residents. Perth has received just 49mm of rain this month, well under its May average of 87mm, despite experiencing nine days of rain. Just three of these days have brought more than 10mm with the highest on Thursday 10th seeing 11.6mm and the smallest shower bringing 0.2mm. A trough is heading for the southwest of Australia where, up until 6:30pm, it had already generated 16mm over Cape Leeuwin and 4mm over Cape Naturaliste, their highest rainfall in two weeks. This trough is creating an extensive cloudband off the coast which has the potential to bring up to 5-15mm of rain to Perth over the next few days. The rain should clear on Saturday morning making for a clear and sunny weekend.
