Rainfall record broken in Charters Towers

Thursday July 24, 2008 - 10:07 EST

Charters Towers has broken its July rainfall record with over 144 millimetres recorded at 6:00am AEST on Thursday.

Wondervale and Gregory Springs have also broken rainfall records for the month.

Julian Romanik from the weather bureau says the rain will ease by Thursday afternoon.

"Over today we should see that low moving down to the south east as it does so it should take the stronger winds with it and gradually should see winds moderating upping from the north," he said.
