Canegrowers in north Queenslands' Burdekin region say rain has come at the wrong time.
A recent industrial accident at the Pioneer Sugar Mill has already delayed the crush season and the current wet weather could make it drag on until early next year.
Local industry spokesman David Lando says it is a problem for farmers.
"We just cant get into our paddocks and harvest because we haven't got a lot of wet weather gear in the Burdekin region like the Herbert and Tully and other areas like Mackay have," he said.
"Our harvesters are all on rubber tyres normally, so to get them moving again we need to have some sort of ability for the soil to hold together and not to sink."
