Queensland coast battens down for a lashing

Press Release, Tuesday July 22, 2008 - 16:34 EST

The Capricornia and Central Coast regions of Queensland are expecting a deluge over the next 48 hours according to www.weatherzone.com.au

The latest high resolution computer modelling from weatherzone is predicting a small intense low will form off the central Queensland coast and produce very heavy rain with strong winds.

While significant rain is expected right along the Queensland coast and ranges, it looks likely that the strip from Mackay to Bundaberg will bear the brunt of the storm.

Rainfall totals in excess of 100mm are likely across the worst affected areas.
The rain is expected to reach peak intensity on Thursday before moving away from the coast on Friday.

The southeast Queensland coast can expect heavy seas and very large swells for a few days as the storm system moves away to the east.
