Perth chills in near freezing morning

Tim Hooton, Thursday July 19, 2012 - 11:41 EST

The mercury in Perth dropped to a two year low this morning, plunging down to 1.2 degrees just after 6:30am.

Perth shivered this morning through another chilly night, after yesterday's 2.2 degrees. Today's 1.2 degrees is the coldest Perth has felt since July 2010.

A cold pool of air has been lingering over the south of WA for the last few days while a large high pressure system has also formed. This high has led to clear skies and little to no wind. These conditions have led to the string of cold nights.

There is a good chance this won't be the last chilly night for Perth this week, with conditions almost identical to today's expected for both Friday and Saturday.

However there should be some relief on Sunday as cloud will build over Perth during Saturday evening. This should help to trap the warmth in and provide a much warmer Sunday morning.
