NSW on alert for severe weather

Sunday June 17, 2012 - 09:38 EST

The Weather Bureau has issued a severe weather warning with strong winds expected to hit parts of south-eastern New South Wales.

The bureau says winds gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour are predicted in Goulburn, Bowral, Nowra, Wollongong, Katoomba and Lithgow this morning.

Emergency Services spokeswoman Erin Pogmore says people should prepare their homes.

"If people are getting up and the weather hasn't hit as yet, we are asking that they do make those preparations around their home," she said.

"We are asking that people start securing any loose items around the home, as these can become missiles during high winds.

"In the last event we have seen that there have been items such as trampolines moved up onto roofs, so it is important that people do heed the warnings."
