NSW and QLD shivering in record cold
Tom Saunders

Widespread severe frost will continue across northern NSW and southern Queensland during at least the next week according to weatherzone.com.au.
On Thursday morning temperatures once again plummeted well below freezing, including lows of minus eight at Inverell and Woolbrook, and minus six at Stanthorpe. Tamworth also fell to minus six, their coldest night in 16 years of records.
The coldest though was Tenterfield which woke to a bitter minus nine degrees, their coldest August night in 43 years of records.
Chilly temperatures have even reached the typically mild Queensland coast. Coolangatta has fallen to five or less for eight consecutive nights for the first time in at least 26 years.
The icy conditions are the result of a cold and dry southerly winds over eastern Australia, a pattern which will persist during at least the next seven days.
