North-east Vic to soak up downpour

Tuesday July 10, 2012 - 09:06 EST

Heavy rain is expected to fall across the north-east Victorian region today.

The weather bureau has forecast widespread rainfall totals of 30 millimetres to 50mm in the Goulburn and Broken basins and 30mm to 80mm in the North-East Catchment.

The State Emergency Service (SES) says the rainfall is expected to cause significant stream rises with the possibility of minor to moderate flooding across the region.

The SES is opening a flood incident control centre in Benalla this morning, with local SES volunteer units on stand-by if required.
