Mother's Day is approaching and the forecast charts are looking pretty grim for a lot of regional Australia. A large scale rain event is likely to play out, but how will it affect your plans? Do you need to make a wet weather contingency? Moving around the capitals, Brisbane looks to be in the clear with generally dry conditions and warm temperatures around 27 degrees. The only concern will be increasing cloud ahead of the broader system. Further south, Sydney-siders also look to escape the worst. Showers only looking to develop after dark, so capitalise on the daylight hours. Unfortunately, Melbourne and Adelaide are not likely to be as fortunate, with periods of rain, thick cloud temperatures limited to just 20 degrees. Similarly, Canberra is in for a dousing, with a mild maximum of just 18 degrees. Although cloudy, these showers only look to make it as far south and east as Hobart after dark, so perhaps brunch is the best option for Tasmanian mums. Finally, Perth and Darwin will be well removed from this system, so it's business as usual. Conditions will be mild and mostly fine in Perth, with just the outside chance of a shower. Meanwhile, a region of low pressure lingering over the Top End presents the risk of isolated thunderstorms during the morning and afternoon, with a maximum of 33 degrees. For those of you living outside of the state's capitals, there are a few areas of interest. A widespread band of heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will likely stretch from southern and central parts of the NT, over northeastern SA, southwestern QLD and across NSW to the Alps. Within this northwest band of rain, widespread totals of 25-50mm are likely, with over 60mm a chance over Central Australia and the Alps. Victoria won't miss out, collecting 25-50mm over elevated ground, grading to around 15-25 further west and into SA.
