More storms forecast after overnight flooding

Wednesday November 19, 2008 - 09:10 EDT

Heavy rain has caused some flooding in south-east Queensland overnight.

There have been steady falls of between 60 and 80 millimetres across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

There is water across some roads, but the weather bureau says there has been no major flooding.

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts is urging people to stay away from floodwaters.

"We just need people to not walk in them, ride in them, play in them or drive through them, they're far too dangerous," he said.

Forecaster Vikash Prasad says storms are expected to hit the region again this afternoon.

"That cloud band's cleared eastwards, we still have a fair bit of moisture and a little bit of light drizzly stuff showers around at the moment," he said.

"Could get a bit of heating through the day with the sun out, and that means that storms could be a little bit stronger than expected."
