More powder snow on the Australian Alps this weekend

Max Gonzalez, Thursday August 21, 2008 - 18:50 EST

If you haven't done so, head to the mountains this month. Snow conditions for skiers and snowboarders are pretty good with the amount of snow that has fallen over the Alps in recent weeks. Continuing the trend, widespread snowfalls over the NSW and Victorian ranges are expected overnight and tomorrow as a cold change crosses the southeast. Snow will fall as low as 800 metres on Thursday night retreating to 1000 metres on Friday and easing later in the day. Ski resorts are likely to receive 5 to 10 cm of snow overnight and between 3 to 10 tomorrow. With such conditions powder snow should delight those who decide to visit the Alps this weekend.

Snowfalls are expected to ease as a high clears the skies over the Australian Alps late in the weekend. However, there is a chance that there might be some light snowfalls later next week.
