Minister orders review of flood report

Saturday August 4, 2012 - 11:18 EST

The State Government has ordered an independent review of SEQ Water's report into last year's south east Queensland floods.

Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle says the review will be jointly conducted by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr McArdle says the review will provide a fresh examination of flood data that will be used in a long term review of the flood mitigation manual for Wivenhoe and Somerset dams.

The review was recommended by the Flood Commission of Inquiry and will cost almost $170,000.

Mr McArdle says it will give flood-effected residents more confidence.

"Australian experts were simply not available to do it and I think by going to the United States we do have that independence that will assist people in accepting the report and remove any hint of a biased report being prepared," he said.

"That's very important I think for people who went through the flood and lost so much."
