Mildura student taken to hospital after being hit by lightningFriday September 13, 2013 - 12:21 EST
A 16-year-old girl has escaped serious injury after a suspected lightning strike in north-western Victoria.
Ambulance crews were called to Irymple Secondary College near Mildura, at 9:00am (AEST) after the girl felt a jolt through her hand while holding an umbrella.
She was taken to the Mildura Base Hospital with sore arms but no other serious injuries.

More than a dozen homes have lost their roofs and close to 19,000 properties were left without power after very dangerous thunderstorms tore across south-east Queensland on Sunday afternoon.
Several people including babies have been rescued from Lismore Base Hospital in northern New South Wales after the roof of the maternity ward collapsed.
Severe thunderstorms caused damage in northeastern New South Wales and southeast Queensland on Sunday and should do so again during the next few days.
