Melburnians try to escape the overnight heatThursday December 13, 2012 - 10:09 EDT
If sleeping was troublesome last night it is because Melbourne experienced its hottest December night since 2003.
The mercury dipped to 23.8 degrees Celsius and at 11:30pm it was still a balmy 28C.
It will be slightly cooler tonight, but not by much with the temperature still expected to hover above 20C.
Relief is on the way though with some rain tomorrow and thunderstorms by the weekend.
