Lowering snowfalls across TAS
Sam Terry

Snowfalls are lowering to near sea-level across Tasmania tonight, but should rise again tomorrow.
An extremely cold front made landfall over western Tasmania during mid-morning, quickly spreading a few showers further inland, with falls generally below 5mm. Winds with the front were of gale-force proportions, with Maatsuyker Island receiving gusts today of up to 122 kmh, their highest in a month.
The front has brought in extremely cold, dry air. This is allowing the snow-level to get down to at least 100 metres overnight in the south. Already, Cape Bruny is reporting showers of snow-pellets.
While the bulk of the rainfall will be received in the west and southwest, maybe a further 5-10mm overnight, falls should reach most of the south and central parts, and should lead to at least a light covering of snow. Bushwalkers and drivers are urged to be prepared for hazardous conditions.
