Intense low continues to wreak havoc

Intense low continues to wreak havoc
The same low that generated the severe weather conditions over New South Whales in now battering New Zealand with heavy rain and strong winds. This intense low spawned off the New South Wales coast on Thursday and has continued to trigger severe weather ever since. From the tornado on Thursday to heavy rain in Sydney and now flooding in New Zealand, this will not be a weather system that is soon forgotten. Areas along the New South Wales coast have already seen rainfall totals nearing or exceeding their June average. Port Macquarie was one area hit particularly hard, already receiving 177mm since the start of June, bringing them 64mm above average in just five days. Sydney is just 24mm shy of their June average of 131mm and with more rain tonight totals will near average over many areas in the Sydney Basin. The low is slowly edging its way through the Tasman sea, and has begun to unleash its fury on New Zealand. Heavy rain will continue to drench the country through Tuesday with many areas likely to see as much as 100mm in the coming days. Along with the rain, strong winds will lash the country and have the potential to cause local damage.
