Improved flood warning systems for Queensland

Monday May 12, 2008 - 10:17 EST

The Weather Bureau says it is hoping some improvements to flood warning systems in Queensland will be in place before the next wet season.

There have been calls from some local councils to improve river height information following flooding earlier this year.

The Bureau's Peter Baddiley says networks are being reviewed and there are opportunities for jointly-funded improvements between local government and state and Commonwealth agencies.

"There's no doubt there are improvements needed, improving information networks, both rainfall and water level information networks," Mr Baddiley said.

"What it gets down to is what are the priorities for making those improvements and how are they to be funded."
