Heavy rain and strong winds moved from Queensland into NSW on Friday, as an intense low formed off the east coast, according to weatherzone.com.au
The low is part of the same system responsible for bringing more than 50 millimetres to parts of Queensland’s southern interior in recent days. Upwards of 100mm fell over eastern parts of the Brisbane catchment area.
By Friday morning the town of Dorrigo on the NSW north coast had received 143mm, their second wettest day of the year thus far.
Remaining close to the coast until late Saturday, the low is likely to bring further falls in excess of 100mm as it continues to intensify. The heaviest rain is likely to fall over the coast and ranges between Coffs Harbour and Newcastle.
Late on Friday morning wave heights off Byron Bay were peaking at over eight metres, and a severe weather warning was current for the Mid North Coast.
