Heavy rain hits Brisbane

Wednesday October 15, 2008 - 22:03 EDT

The weather bureau says a storm front has dumped heavy rainfall on Brisbane's northern suburbs.

The front developed this afternoon west of Brisbane, and hit Ipswich at about 6pm AEST, while another cell hit Gatton and Esk earlier in the afternoon.

The bureau's Geoff Doull says areas around Mitchelton had about 60 millimetres while Deagon and Boondall had about 50 mm.

He says the storm is moving north.

"It's almost around the Bribie Island area now, getting up towards the sunny-coast later on this evening, but there's still a few more storms inland moving up towards the Wide Bay area overnight," he said.

"There's potential for it around the area coming up towards Caloundra in the next couple of hours to see some pretty good falls."
