Heavy rain for southern QLD

Heavy rain for southern QLD
Overnight, southern Queensland experienced another bout of heavy downpour with storms. The heaviest falls fell in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts with places such as Bottle Tree, Rangemore and Townson all recording over 70mm of rain in one hour. These falls moved over the Gold Coast early this morning where Carrara recorded 75mm of rain in the hour to 4:45am. In addition, over 6,000 lightning strikes were recorded within 30km of the Gold Coast. Rainfall amounts such as these are not uncommon during Queensland's summer, though these are the heaviest falls seen at some of these locations for a number of years. Similar storms may spark up again this afternoon and evening, potentially being severe with heavy rainfall.
