Heavy rain drenches southwest WA
The best rain in more than a decade has soaked southwest parts of Western Australia over the last two days. An intense low pressure system drove rain and thunderstorms across the region over the weekend. Over a two day period, falls of 40-80mm were commonplace with some places seeing as much as 90mm. The state's capital copped one of the highest falls with 75mm in the 48 hours to 9am today, its wettest two-day period since April 2002, and for May in more than two decades. Eneabba collected 41mm in the 24 hours to 9am today, its heaviest 24 hour total for May since 1999, while Perth Airport had its best May fall in a decade, recording 38mm. A high pressure ridge will develop from today, causing showers to gradually become less frequent. By Tuesday, the ridge should take over causing generally dry conditions for the remainder of the week.
