Heavy rain and flooding affecting NSW
The NSW long-weekend was also a very wet weekend, in fact the wettest in months for many places, which is even now making conditions dangerous.
Sydney collected a total of 26mm over the course of Saturday and Sunday, one third of it's monthly total in two days. This was also the city's wettest weekend in eight months. Inland suburbs of the Sydney Basin received slightly more than the city.
But the main rainfall was not in Sydney; it was in the north. Many coastal and near-coastal towns from Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay were awash with in excess of 100mm. Evans Head recorded 223mm to 9am this morning, their wettest day in five years, and wettest October day on record. Cape Byron received 205mm, their wettest day in at least seven years.
Even the other side of the border was hit with the torrential rain. Coolangatta picked up 136mm, their wettest day in four years.
Currently, a small-scale low is developing off the Mid-North Coast. This is set to bring even more heavy rain to the areas between Coffs and Evens Head. More flooding is expected with this.
Tuesday should see the heavy falls depart from NSW, but with spring upon us, it won't be long before heavy showers reappear.
