Heaviest April rain in five years for parts of SE QLD

Heaviest April rain in five years for parts of SE QLD
Persistent showers seemed relentless overnight for parts of southeast Queensland and has resulted in some of the heaviest April rainfall in five years. A high pressure ridge has been steering moist southeasterly winds over southeastern parts of the Sunshine state in recent days. Cool air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere has amplified instability allowing this moisture to condense and fall as rain. Showers persisted over coastal parts of Queensland overnight delivering 46mm to Cape Moreton, making it the healthiest rain seen in April since 2009. This also went down as the heaviest rain for any month since late February when the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Marcia impacted the Southeast Coast. Similarly, Double Island Point collected their heaviest rain since Marcia's visit in late February with 19mm. Showers are continuing this morning, and have the potential to bring another 10-20mm over exposed parts of the coast.
