Heat headed for Adelaide
After a cool start to summer, Adelaide sweltered through back-to-back days in the high thirties last week and more is on the way.
A low pressure trough will drag a very hot airmass from the interior to southern parts of South Australia over the next two days, challenging the heat from last week. Adelaide warmed to 38.7 on Tuesday and 38.8 on Wednesday last week, well above the December average of 27.3 degrees.
The City of Churches is forecast to reach 35 degrees today. Increasing cloud cover will make for a very uncomfortable nights sleep as the heat from the day struggles to escape. It is likely to remain above 30 degrees until the small hours of Monday morning, only briefly dipping down to the forecast minimum of 27 degrees.
Monday will heat up quickly as the hottest part of the airmass moves in. Despite the cloud cover, Adelaide is forecast to reach 40 degrees for the first time since last summer. A cool change will move through overnight on Monday and into Tuesday morning, returning day time temperatures to near or below average for much of the week.
