Heat and powerful surf on the way for coastal southeast QLD
After a slight dip in temperatures yesterday, warmer days are on the way from the Coolangatta area to the Sunshine Coast region.
The mercury will gradually rise over the coming days as an inland trough draws in hot air from the QLD interior. Combining with the trough is moist winds from a high pressure ridge building over the coast, adding humidity to the heat.
Monday and Tuesday are likely to be the hottest, with temperatures in the range of 30-33 degrees between the NSW border and Noosa Heads. Brisbane may get even warmer than this if the seabreeze is late, but regardless the extra humidity will be make conditions feel about 2-3 degrees hotter than the actual temperature.
The high pressure ridge will reduce the likelihood of thunderstorm development, so the afternoons and evenings will remain warm and sticky. Looking like some tempting days to go the beach…
Powerful, dangerous waves that Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tatiana is whipping up out in the Coral Sea will be greeting beachgoers from tomorrow. The tropical low is lingering offshore, about 690 km east of Fraser Island, and is gradually decaying. However at its former and current strength, it will easily generate dangerous surf conditions. Waves in excess of 6 feet are expected tonight and throughout Monday for southeast QLD.
Sick days among surfers will likely be at high rates, however experience will be key to getting back on the sand safely. Those less confident may find staying on the sand as the safer option. Remember to swim between the flags!
