There is a severe thunderstorm warning for south-east Queensland for damaging wind and large hail.
At about 1pm AEST, a line of storms was detected near Killarney and the New South Wales border.
They are moving north-east and are forecast to affect Oakington and the Cunninghams Gap region by 2pm AEST.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and the south-east coast district.
The State Emergency Service (SES) says it is vital for the community to be prepared for more severe storms.
SES area director Jenny Millers says people can help by cleaning their yards of loose items, clearing gutters and cutting back tree branches.
"We need the community to self prepare as much as possible - check their roofs, have an emergency kit and make sure that you have battery powered radio," she said.
"If they also clear their yards of any loose items as they become flying debris in strong winds and that can create damage to not only your own home but someone else's home."
A short time ago, storms were detected on weather radar near the area south-west of Toowoomba, Cambooya, the area south of Cunningham's Gap and Moogerah.
They are moving towards the north-east and will affect those regions over the next hour.
