Gippsland storm clean-up to take a fortnight

Tuesday September 11, 2012 - 08:22 EST

VicRoads expects it will take a fortnight to finish the clean-up from last week's storms in Gippsland.

Strong winds brought down trees and powerlines on roads and cars across Gippsland.

Most roads have now reopened, but the Tyers-Thomson Valley Road is likely to be closed for several more days.

Sebastian Motta from VicRoads says trees need to be removed from roadsides, and guardrails, rope barriers and signs need to be fixed.

"The Gippsland region over the past 12 months has been hit pretty hard with a lot of natural disasters," Mr Motta said.

"The extent of work that is ahead of us over the next couple of weeks is pretty extraordinary.

"Key roads in and around South Gippsland were hit hard, and over the next couple of weeks VicRoads will be working to clean-up the roadsides."
