Victorians are being warned to brace for severe weather over the next 24 hours, with rainfall of up to 150 millimetres predicted for some regions.
Gippsland is expected to be the worst affected, with the weather bureau predicting gale force winds and flash flooding.
Phil King from the bureau says conditions should improve by Monday.
"The system will move away later Sunday, so during Monday we'll see a bit of rain across the south-east of the state but the winds will moderate and we'll return to more normal weather," he said.
"We'll also see very cold weather across the weekend. We're forecasting snow in the alpine areas."
Meanwhile, the RACV is warning drivers to take extra care as wet weather settles in.
RACV chief engineer Peter Daly says it is important that drivers watch their speed.
"Well the problem in this kind of weather for most drivers is actually driving at an inappropriate speed," he said.
"I've been driving around this morning and I've seen a lot of puddles on the side of the road and even some flooding.
"You can't always see that so if you're going too fast it's quite possible to aquaplane and run off the road so the tip is slow down in wet weather."
