Frosty nights setting in a month before winter

Frosty nights setting in a month before winter
Frost will be the norm for the next few nights and early mornings in the prone areas of southeastern Australia, yet winter is more than a month away. Parts of the NSW ranges and northeastern Victoria, including Orange, Cooma and Wangaratta can expect frost each morning until early next week. Tomorrow (Thursday) morning frost will be much more widespread across inland areas of New South Wales and Victoria than it was this morning with help from clearer skies. It will also be widespread across inland Tasmania. This morning frost was widespread across Tasmania, occurring in all seven districts, inland and coastal. It also formed on the ranges in Victoria and New South Wales and as far north as southern Queensland. It's not unusual for frost to develop late in April; Orange and Wangaratta commonly have one or two by the end of the month and Cooma five. However, this morning's frost was unusually severe with some records broken due to the recent cold blast which brought more than half a metre of snow to the ski resorts. Temperatures plummeted as much as 13 degrees below average. Flinders Island reached zero for the first time in April in 48 years of records.
