From sweltering to sweaters in Adelaide
Adelaide residents will be swapping singlets for sweaters from Sunday.
Yesterday the mercury steadily increased, reaching 35 degrees before a weak sea breeze came into the city in the early evening. Very light winds and building cloud made for a hot and sticky evening, with the city sitting at 23 degrees as the clock struck midnight. The mercury petered down to 18.2 degrees after sunrise this morning, making it the warmest morning this early in October since 2006.
The recent heat is due to northerly winds ahead of a trough drawing in the hot air that was steadily building over WA. This system will clear the city today, but still bringing loads of cloud, a few sprinkles and thunderstorms to the north and east.
Behind this system, a cooler airmass and onshore winds will bring both overnight and daytime temperatures back down to the October average. From Sunday until Tuesday, days will remain in the low-twenties despite plenty of sunshine.
From mid-week, the warmer weather will return again ahead of another trough, with the heat peaking once again in the mid-30’s on Thursday.
