The city of Brisbane was veiled in a thick fog this morning. You could see no farther than 100 metres in front of your nose from 6am to 7:30am in Archerfield. Ipswitch and Amberly were also among those locations that were shrouded in the dense fog, with visibility dropping to 250 metres. Fortunately, Brisbane Airport largely missed out on the worst of the fog, and flight delays were kept to a minimum. The line of thunderstorms that hit Brisbane surrounds late last night left the surface layer of air very moist. As the skies cleared and the winds become light early in the morning, this layer of air was able to cool until moisture condensed, forming a thick layer of fog. More thunderstorms are forecast to impact northern suburbs of Brisbane today. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 3pm for the Central Highlands and Coalfields for thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail. These bands of storms are likely to move east into the Capricornia, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast later this afternoon and this evening.
