Flood relief criteria in the spotlight

Wednesday June 27, 2012 - 13:39 EST

Victoria's Deputy Premier says the Commonwealth's criteria for flood relief has gotten much tougher in recent years.

The Federal Government has rejected an application for help for farmers near Stawell, who were hit by flash flooding in December.

Peter Ryan says the issue will be raised at a meeting of federal and state ministers this week.

"We are going to be looking at a number of issues that are pertinent to our respective portfolios and this is one of the issues that I have on the agenda, where we need to get much more transparency in what ... [in] fact are the arrangements which will give rise to these grants being made available to people," he said.
