Finally. Some Winter
Jessica Trevena

With both Sydney and Canberra experiencing their warmest string of June nights in decades, some cold mornings are finally expected this weekend.
A high pressure system drifting over NSW and VIC Thursday night resulted in the coldest morning of the year for much of northern NSW, including Woolbrook, which plummeted to minus seven degrees before dawn. Tenterfield and Armidale reached minus six, while some western suburbs of Sydney, like Richmond, fell below freezing.
As the high drifts southeast tonight, the colder nights will follow - Wollongong, Sydney and Newcastle are all expecting their coldest night of the year, while Canberra will almost certainly see its coldest night since mid May.
By early next week, cloud and strong winds ahead of a cold front will limit overnight heat loss from the surface, pushing minimums up once more, though days will become chilly behind the front.
