Ferry services return after bad weather

Thursday September 6, 2012 - 08:31 EST

The ferry service to and from Kangaroo Island should resume on Thursday afternoon after a ferry was damaged during a squall on Tuesday night.

The ferry was holed above the water line when it hit the wharf at Cape Jervis.

Another ferry had been undergoing maintenance but is being returned to service, to restore the crossings until the first ferry has been repaired.

SeaLink managing director Jeff Ellison said repairs would take a couple of days.

"That'll actually head to Adelaide today now and it will be repaired in Adelaide. We expect that to be a couple of days' work and then it will return to Kangaroo Island," he said.

The South Australian Transport Department says three river ferries on the Murray have now resumed services.

The car ferries at Wellington, Narrung and Tailem Bend had stopped operating due to poor weather.
