Farmers lament end of flood scheme
Friday September 21, 2012 - 14:13 EST
Farmers involved in a flood recovery program in Victoria's north-west say they are disappointed the project is coming to an end.
The program, run by the Mallee Catchment Management Authority, hired 55 farmers to help carry out environmental works.
Chris Tassone, a table grape grower from Red Cliffs, says the program has saved him a lot of stress.
"It helps you, psychology but also financially ... financially that was the main issue for me," he said.
"Where you put food on the table every week, the wife didn't argue with me, the kids got what they needed to do, school, this, that.
"Just little things but it helps. It's a lifesaver as far as I'm concerned."
