Ex-Tropical Cyclone Heidi wrap up
The remnants of Heidi continue to bring heavy rain to WA. Ex-tropical cyclone Heidi continues to bring heavy rainfall to the WA Gascoyne and Pilbara. In southeastern parts of the Pilbara, Mount Vernon picked up 117mm in the past 24 hours. This is its heaviest January rainfall in at least 72 years and heaviest for any month in 15 years. Meekathara received 46mm, which is close to double its monthly average and heaviest since last February. Locally heavy rainfall should continue to fall on Saturday and Sunday, spreading across to the Goldfields and Interior districts. The signature of the tropical system will peter out by Tuesday, however a low pressure trough will linger across WA for most of next week. This trough should continue to trigger thunderstorms through inland parts of WA. There is a chance that this trough could affect the Perth region today, with possible thunderstorms in the city on Saturday afternoon and evening.
